Osprey tour

This tour takes place in south -east part of Etelä -Konnevesi lake in Southern Konnevesi national Park.  The area is sheltered and labyrinth-like archipelago with the most impressive rocks and the narrowest straits of the area. There is things to see and experience for everybody from beginners to advanced paddlers. The specialty is the biggest osprey population in the Central Finland region ans plenty of their huts. The tour includes a break in the Kaituri lean to where we have snacks.

The trip is also suitable for less experienced paddlers since we will paddle at a slow pace in calm waters.  The kayaking trip is 10-12 km depending on the route chosen and lasts for c. 4  – 5 hours.

Price:  70 €/ participant, includes VAT of 10 %. Minimum charge is 210 €. (includes 1 – 3  participants).

Price includes: The services of a licenced paddling guide during the trip and the required equipment (kayaks, paddles, spray decks, paddling vests and raincoats).  Food (coffee/tea, sandwiches and spread, cold smoked salmon, beef cold cuts and Finnish squeaky cheese with locally made buckthorn-raspberry jam).

Location:    Southern Konnevesi National Park, which is located in Lakeland. in central Finland.  Starting and returning point is  the Hanhitaipale harbour, address Satamatie 140, 77700 Rautalampi.

The nearest bus station or railway station is in Suonenjoki, 34 km from the Hanhitaipale Harbour. Taxis are available at the station.    Distances: Jyväskylä city centre 112 km and travel time by car is c. 1 h 35 min. Jyväskylä airport 92 km and travel time c. 1 h 15 min. Kuopio city centre 85 km and travel time 1 h 10 min. Kuopio airport 100 km and travel time 1 h 20 min.  It is easy to reach by you own or a rental car. We are glad to advice with transportation.

Requirements for the participants:  The participants need to be over 18 years old. Children under 18 can participate in the company of a guardian.  The minimum weight of the participants is 40 kg and maximum weight 110 kg. and it is also necessary to be able to swim for at least 5 meters. The participants are required to have clothes appropriate for the weather and footwear suitable for paddling. They can also paddle barefoot.

Other:    Group size is 1 – 9 persons. We use single and double kayaks. There are outhouses at Hanhitaipale harbour at the break location in the Kaituri lean-to. If the weather (wind speed over 8 m/s) does not allow the safe execution of the paddling trip, we reserve the right to cancel it or change it into a guided hike at the Kalaja lean-to shelter in Southern Konnevesi National Park.
